When using a concealer to hide a blemish or pigmentation, the aim is almost exclusively to give the skin a more uniform tone. The needs of the skin under the eyes differ from the rest of the face in several ways. Firstly, the eye area is much thinner than the rest of your skin. It can’t produce oil as the rest of the face does, so a different texture is required for products applied to the under eyes- something that will glide on without appearing thick and cakey and won’t settle into fine lines.

Secondly, dark circles or not, the under eyes will always be a slightly different colour to the rest of your skin, so the purpose of an under-eye concealer isn’t purely to give the skin a more uniform tone. An under-eye concealer must cover dark circles, brighten the skin tone and, ideally, help depuff the area.

How to brighten dark circles under the eyes
